The first few weeks......

Hey everybody!!

We were very busy in finding a place to live instead of staying with our parents. In some countries people intend to leave their elderly home on a very young age. Here in Holland you see that more and more too. The only problem in Holland is that everything is so tight and compact that there has always been not enough space for a house for every single Dutchwo/man. This was already a problem in the late fifties.

This means that houses are very expensive especially in the area where we live. The provence of South-Holland. Nearby Amsterdam and The Hague, alot of jobs (that's getting less because of the "crisis") the infrastructure is really perfectly maintaint (A little too good construction everywhere, anytime!!) and we have the biggest and most important airport stationed in Amsterdam that is a pillar for the European and also the Dutch economy.

But to get back to business!! We bought ourselves a house and to be particular on the 14th of July. Before all that we had to get ourselves a mortgage. But the only problem was that to buy a house we both needed a job. So we could search for a house but we couldn't buy it jet because Jo was doing an internship for school.

After graduation and applying for a couple of months she got picked out of a dozen people to start as a Radio and Television planner in Amstelveen. This means she has to make deals with companies who want to advertise on both media's and broadcasters who broadcast their commercials for a reasonable price. So problem 1 was solved. For the record I already have a job for 2 years as a furniture maker at my dad's company so I had no trouble what so ever.

Big problem number 2 was that we couldn't get enough mortgage by the bank. So we had the luck of getting a government loan to support the mortgage to get the house in our property. This took 2 months and alot of frustration because government personal is as fast as thick sh.........t. But like calling for 30 times everyday within that period we managed to get the loan eventually.

We began tearing up the place after we introduced ourselves to our neighbours by drinking a nice cup of coffee ( a "bakkie doen" or in plain english doing a bucket of coffee) The neighbours on the other side were preparing to move to another home. We never got the will and chance to met because this dude was a winer. The guy couldn't handle a single sound.

The 4 main tools I needed were a wall-paper scratcher, crow-bar, shovel and a sledge hammer. The last one is my favourite because I did almost 90% of all the demolition with it. HAHA!!

As you can see there were no walls left on the first floor and on the attic, the roof got some more ventilation holes that usual and the kitchen was the only thing that got spared from being beatened up.
